Great Expectations
We offer A/S Level students studying ens novel 'Great Expectations' the opportunity to take part in a day-long programme which begins with a short lecture on the main themes of the novel and a background to the author. The students are then divided into groups, each taking part in four different activities of about 30 minutes duration within the open air Museum:
- A visit to Cushendall Courthouse to learn about the history of law, justice and transportation.
- Undertaking some household chores in the Old Rectory to gain an insight into the role of women and their place in society.
- A chance to experience a typical day in the life of a blacksmith with a visit to Lisrace Forge to see the blacksmith at work.
- An opportunity to see some authentic costume to discover more about the dress and etiquette of gentlefolk in stark contrast to the poorer classes.
The students are very welcome to visit our library, either on the day or for research at a later date by appointment, where they can access relevant original contemporary source material.
